Arctic Ocean Tour: Sandfjorden Nature Reserve from Utsjoki

You're picked up from your accommodation in Utsjoki or Nuorgam in the early morning for the roughly 2.5-hour drive toward Tana fjord and Berlevåg.

The scenic route follows the Tana fjord and crosses the highland area next to Varanger Halvøya National Park before reaching Sandfjorden, a protected nature reserve with a white sand beach that dates back around two million years.

At Sandfjorden you're free to explore the beach at your own pace, and can try a swim in the Arctic Ocean if you're up for it. From here you can also visit the nearby fishing village of Kongsfjord, or take on the demanding 6 km marked trail up Sandfjordfjellet by the beach.

Bring your own snacks, reserve a wilderness lunch for an extra cost, or pick up something in the small village of Kongsfjord.

What to wear
Warm outdoor clothing to protect against the cold sea breeze at the coast. If you plan to hike to Sandfjordfjellet, comfortable hiking clothes are a good idea; bring swimwear and a towel too if you want to try a swim in the Arctic Ocean.
