Join us for a scenic summer adventure in Pyhä-Luosto National Park as we hike through ancient Arctic forest to the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine. Surrounded by peaceful wilderness and fresh pine-scented air, this is the perfect way to experience Lapland’s nature while uncovering a geological treasure.
The trail to the mine is approximately 2.5 kilometers and takes about 45 minutes. It follows a wide former ski track, making it easy and accessible, even for families with strollers. Along the way, you’ll find fun and educational signs with questions about local nature, perfect for kids and curious minds alike. Although the path is gently uphill, the pace is relaxed and your guide will ensure a comfortable walk for everyone.
At the top of the fell, you’ll learn about the unique history of the area and the ancient formation of amethysts, created more than 2 billion years ago. Then it’s time to grab your tools and dig for your own gemstone, if it fits in your closed fist, you’re welcome to take it home as a personal souvenir of your adventure.
Before returning, you’ll have time to browse the small mine shop, where local artisans offer handmade jewelry and crafts (purchases optional).
This tour is a perfect blend of light hiking, natural beauty, and cultural discovery, great for families, couples, and anyone seeking a peaceful summer experience in the heart of Finnish Lapland.
