This is how we locals actually spend a winter day in Lapland — and now you can live it too. A full day at a private wilderness cabin on the bank of the Ylläsjoki river, with snowshoes, a wood-fired sauna, open-fire cooking and the kind of deep-forest silence that you carry home with you.
We drive out from Ylläsjärvi to the cabin — about 25 minutes through the winter landscape — then set off on snowshoes into the forest, tracking the signs of moose, reindeer, hare, fox and capercaillie in the snow. Back at the cabin, we fetch river water through a hole in the ice, fire up the wood stove and grill sausages in the kota — the traditional Lappish teepee — with a warm drink. Then it's time for the sauna: a real, wood-heated riverside sauna, finishing with a roll in the snow for the brave. Taken in small groups of up to 4 at a time, so you never share the sauna with strangers.
An authentic Lapland experience unlike anything else on offer. Minimum age 13. Minimum 4, maximum 8 participants.
