An evening snowmobile safari built around the night sky. Three hours, small group of usually 4 to 6 snowmobiles, from our base in Sinettä, 20 minutes north of Rovaniemi — well away from city lights and busier tourist trails. We provide everything you need for the ride except your own base layers. Show up warm underneath, and we handle the rest.
We start with a warm welcome at our base at 19:00, a proper briefing, and a chance to step inside and get warm. Then we get you kitted out with thermal overalls, boots, helmet and gloves and head out. The first stretch is the training section, but you're already riding. We start slow, make sure everyone feels comfortable on the machine, and pick up the pace as the group settles in.
Our destination is a private hill we know well — a vantage point above the treeline, with open views in every direction. At the top is our own kota, a traditional Lappish hut with an open fire in the middle. We grill sausages over the flames, pour a hot drink, and spend a good while there: stepping outside to watch the sky, stepping back in to warm up. The kota is ours, so when we're there, we're on our own.
The Northern Lights are never a guarantee, anywhere in Lapland. They depend on solar activity and a clear sky, and both are out of our control. What we can do is give them the best chance: a dark sky, an open horizon, and time to let your eyes adjust. If they appear, you'll be in the right place. If they don't, you've still had a real evening in the Arctic.
How to book?
One snowmobile seats two. Share it (price per person) or ride solo on a single. A shared snowmobile needs 2 people booked together — you can switch driver at breaks. Mixing shared and single in your group? Add each separately in the cart and check out together. Children up to ~140 cm ride in the guide's sleigh (add as Child); taller kids can ride as a passenger instead (book as Adult). Free pickup and the optional liability waiver are chosen at checkout.
About us
PolarMax is a small family business located in Sinettä, 20 km north of Rovaniemi. Up here it's snowy forests, frozen lakes and rivers, and open hills, away from the busy trails. This is our home. We started PolarMax because we wanted to share something we genuinely love — riding through real Lapland wilderness, far from the tourist routes. The feeling of discovery, adventure, and friendship.
Our snowmobiles are BRP Lynx Ranger, manufactured 20 minutes from where we ride. Stable, powerful, and built for Arctic conditions. Heated grips and boot warmers for the driver; heated seat and handlebar grips for the passenger. Comfortable suspension, modern fuel-injected 4-stroke engine and built to last.
