FROM ROVANIEMI TO YLLÄS
Embark on a 6-day electric fatbike journey through the pristine wilderness of Finnish Lapland, connecting Rovaniemi and Ylläs National Park.
This unique bike itinerary takes you deep into the Arctic landscapes, connecting the capital of Lapland with iconic national park Ylläs. Following scenic cycling trails and Lapland roads, the route leads you through peaceful forests, open fells, and around the lakes.
Powered by your electric fat bike, It is the perfect adventure for those who wish to explore Lapland pure nature and authentic local life in a sustainable, eco-friendly way, while enjoying the fun and challenge of active outdoor activity. Your experienced guide will always adapt the route and pace to the group’s physical level. With small or private groups, you will enjoy a more personal and adapted experience.
THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
On your first day you will be welcomed by your guide and our team, who will introduce the itinerary, safety aspects in detail and help you get familiar with your e-fatbikes. You will have time to test the equipment and get comfortable with the electric assistance before beginning your adventure.
Once introductions are complete, you will set off for your first 50 km ride, heading toward a long-established reindeer farm. Reindeer are perhaps the most iconic animals of Lapland and have played a vital role in the local traditional lifestyle. Meeting these gentle, semi-wild creatures is always a magical and authentic experience for anyone visiting Rovaniemi.
At the farm, you’ll have the chance to feed the reindeer by hand, a special moment to connect with the animals and observe their calm nature up close. After the feeding, the herders will welcome you inside a kota, a traditional wooden hut, where they’ll share stories about their life with reindeer around the fire. You’ll then enjoy a homemade local supper, lovingly prepared by the herder family themselves.
ON THE CYCLING TRAIL (DAY 2 – 4)
After visiting the farm, we will join famous Arctic by Cycle: Santa’s Western Gravel Loop and continue your journey along this scenic and accessible cycling route in southwestern Lapland.
The trail winds through peaceful villages, endless taiga forests, and quiet stretches of wilderness. Over the next two or three days, we will follow this route at a comfortable pace, adjusting to the group’s rhythm and taking time to enjoy the sights, sounds, and scents of the northern nature around us.
When evening comes, we will find a beautiful spot to set up camp. The calm of Lapland’s wilderness is all around. Along the way, several huts, lean-tos, and cooking shelters provide a welcome rest, all equipped with firewood and offering protection from the weather. If the huts are free, participants may camp inside; otherwise, winter tents, sleeping bags and mattresses are provided for a comfortable and safe outdoor camp night in the beautiful Lappish nature!
If you join our advenutre in autumn between starting from late August , each of those nights offer the possibility to observe northern lights if the weather and solar conditions are good!
This flexible adventure allows you to shape the journey to your liking, from daily distances to sleeping arrangements, for a truly personal and adaptable Arctic cycling experience. The route ends at the gates of Ylläs National Park.
REST AT THE WOODEN COTTAGE (5-6)
After completing your cycling adventure, it’s time to slow down and relax at a fully-equipped wooden cottage which is located in the beautiful nature and just 500m from the national park!
Our cottages are large and cozy; they may accommodate the whole group in comfortable shared twin bedrooms. Also, the cottage is equipped with all facilities, kitchen, laundry machine, and a sauna that participants may happily use. You can unwind with a relaxing sauna or hot tub, letting the calm of Lapland surround you.
If you are in the mood to explore, embark on an optional cycling ride or hike through Yllästunturi National Park, where scenic viewpoints reveal a breathtaking landscape. Along the way, pause to enjoy the silence of the wilderness, breathe in the fresh Arctic air, and take in the beauty of this pristine environment.
FINAL DAY: GOODBYE LAPLAND
On your last day, depending on your travel plans, you will check out of the cottage and choose from several options:
- travel toward Kolari, the northernmost train station in Finland, for your journey back to Helsinki by train,
- take a transfer arranged by us to Kittilä Airport or back to Rovaniemi by minivan, or
- why not challenge yourselves and return by e-biking ?
Whichever option you choose, your Arctic adventure will leave you with many unforgettable memories of Lapland.
ABOUT YOUR EQUIPMENT
A list of provided or recommended equipment is sent to each participant in advance.
Every adventurer will be provided with all necessary equipment for the e-cycling adventure, including:
- a high-quality electric fatbike (e-bike),
- a helmet,
- optional bike accessories such as panniers or handlebar bags
The electric bikes are easy to use and designed to support long-distance cycling in varied terrain, including hilly sections and forest trails. The pedal-assist feature allows participants of all fitness levels to enjoy the ride comfortably while experiencing the Lapland landscape.
We recommend that participants bring their own cycling or outdoor clothing, including gloves, a windproof jacket, and sturdy shoes, to ensure comfort during the adventure.
FOOD
Meals are included for the duration of the e-cycling adventure, from the first lunch meal at the reindeer farm until the last morning. All meals are prepared by the guide and feature typical Nordic cuisine, providing the perfect energy boost for a cycling adventure. Dietary restrictions are respected as much as possible.
We recommend that participants bring any additional snacks or specific food they might need. If necessary, a group visit to a nearby supermarket can be arranged during our advenure.
