Reindeer is probably the most iconic animal of Lapland, it has played a significant part in local traditional lifestyle. Meeting those lovely semi-wild animals is always a unique experience for anyone visiting Rovaniemi!
With you guide, you will leave Rovaniemi to reach a traditional reindeer farm near a lake. The herders have been living in this area for approximately four centuries. This complete visit of the authentic reindeer farm is therefore a perfect opportunity to take a dip into local culture and traditional lifestyle. You will meet the herders at work with their male animals, and you will learn about reindeer husbandry. As it is the first visit of the day, you will also get the chance to feed the reindeers with some of their favorite food. This is a great chance to approach the animals too, as reindeer are still very wild.
In autumn, as soon as we have enough snow, you will have the opportunity to practice your driving skills with a self-driven short sleigh ride of 400-600 m (around 2-3 min). Check our specific winter experience for this adventure!
