Your guide drives you in a small group to Pyhä-Luosto, Finland's oldest national park, about 1.5 hours from Rovaniemi. From there you head into old-growth forest and hike up one of the park's fells for sweeping views across the horizon.
Pyhä-Luosto's fell chain (tunturi) offers classic Lappish scenery you won't find around Rovaniemi — long, colourful days at the summit in summer, and the fiery "ruska" autumn colours later in the season.
The hike continues to the Lampivaara amethyst mine, tucked on a hilltop and reachable on foot in summer. Here you'll learn about the local geology and the story of the mine, and finish by digging your own amethyst to take home.
Afterwards, your guide prepares a lunch snack over an open fire before you hike back along the trail to your starting point, returning to Rovaniemi around 16:00.
