An Eco-Friendly Ride to Meet the Reindeer
Explore Lapland by electric fatbike — big-tired, motor-assisted bikes that handle a mix of terrain with ease, making this trip suitable for all levels, including beginners and families with teenagers. Groups stay small and the pace is set to match the group.
The ride out takes around 45 minutes through forest and Lappish nature before you reach the reindeer farm.
Reindeer are Lapland's most iconic animal and central to local tradition — meeting these semi-wild creatures up close is a highlight for most visitors to Rovaniemi.
At the farm, you'll meet the herders, learn about reindeer husbandry and their way of life, and — being the first visit of the day — get the chance to feed the reindeer by hand. Afterwards, the herders welcome you into a kota, a traditional wooden hut, for cookies and hot drinks by the fire while they answer your questions.
The ride back to Rovaniemi follows a different route, for a total trip of about 20km on easy forest trails and cycling paths. You'll typically be back by around 12:30, leaving the afternoon free for more.
