This is the best animal combo in Rovaniemi! Most reindeer & husky tours in Rovaniemi usually provides only very short sleigh rides (1-2 minutes each…) in crowded touristic places… Our excursion offers a proper experience with visits of two authentic family-sized places, two long sleigh rides (around 20 minutes each) and a delicious lunch in a wooden kota. This is the perfect tour for families or if you want to combine two excursions in one.
TRADITIONAL REINDEER FARM WITH 2KM SLEIGH RIDE : After being picked up and given warm clothes, you will be transported to a 5-generation authentic reindeer farm located away from Rovaniemi. You will be introduced to your own reindeer and sleigh, and will go for a romantic ride of 2 km (around 20 min). A herder will always be with you and will lead the caravan (please note that a self-driven ride is not posible on longer distances because reindeer are semi-wild animals).
After the ride, you will enjoy a lovely time at the farm, where herders and your guide may answer all your questions about reindeer husbandry. A delicious home-made salmon soup will be served with hot drinks (vegan option possible on request), and pancakes cooked over the open fire!
ETHICAL HUSKY KENNEL WITH 5KM SELF-DRIVEN RIDE : Your guide will then drive you to your second stop of the day, an ethical husky kennel. Dogs and mushers will warmly welcome you. You will also be given driving instructions and be introduced to your own dog team.
Once ready, you will embark for a great 5km sleigh adventure (20 min). You are usually two per sleigh (one passenger and one driver) and you can switch half-way: then you can enjoy a complete experience during the safari!
After the safari, you can spend time with the dogs: they love cuddles and photos! Mushers will also be happy to answer your questions around a warming open fire.
About your dog teams : most of the sledding dogs in Lapland are Alaskan huskies, a mixed breed which is very performant in racing. Those friendly well-trained dogs love running, they even need it for their well-being. They will definitely be super excited to run with you! However, please note that the big fluffy Siberian huskies are not so good runners, therefore they are not traditionally part of sledding dog teams (except in movies!).
