This tour will offer a memorable night adventure on snowshoes! Your guide will take you in small groups away from Rovaniemi to some elusive wild areas with no light pollution. Because the tour lasts for 4 hours, your guide may drive as far as 1 hour away from Rovaniemi in order to get the best weather conditions for sky observation.
During the excursion, you will explore Lapland wilderness by night, walking on deep snow to reach some beautiful nature area. Snowshoeing allows you to hike off the beaten path and get to places that you cannot reach with cars or barefoot. This is a great advantage to reach good viewpoints for sky observation and ultimately see auroras!
Indeed, when conditions are good this tour offers a great chance to observe the Northern lights if they appear! We will always try to adapt the tour to increase the chance of finding auroras; the area of the hike will be decided based on the weather forecasts and your guide may drive to a destination where the sky is predicted clearer! The walk will also aim at reaching some elusive areas without light pollution and a nice open view to the north. You may then walk through the forests to reach a little hidden lake, or walk up to a hilltop to have a nice view over the horizon.
During the tour, your guide will teach you more about the Northern lights, the scientific explanation behind the phenomenon but also the tales and legends associated to it. Biscuits and hot drinks will be served as well to warm you up.
BONUS : When the weather conditions are very promising, your guide may take their professional camera on tour to take pictures of the Northern lights. It is not always guaranteed because this tour is not a photography tour but, if the aurora conditions are great, then we like to make nice memories. :) Of course, in this case, you can get the pictures for free!

This snowshoeing adventure by night is a great tour for those of you who want to experience the Northern lights with an extra nature activity. The snowshoeing + auroras combo is also a nice alternative to our famous Northern Lights Photography Hunting Experience from Rovaniemi , especially when the weather conditions are less promising: in case of snowfalls, you still get a memorable adventure into arctic wilderness! Please note that the possibility to observe auroras is mostly dependent on good weather situations.
