Snow Hotel
Just 30 km from central Rovaniemi, the Arctic Snow Hotel is one of the largest snow structures in the Nordic countries, built entirely from snow and ice. Inside you'll find hotel rooms individually designed around a unique theme with ice sculptures, plus an ice chapel, ice bar and ice restaurant. Your guide leads the visit (about 45 minutes to an hour), sharing the stories behind the rooms and insights into Finnish culture.
Wilderness sauna
Your guide then takes you into the forest to a wilderness cabin with a traditional log sauna — no electricity or running water, just the lake and nature around it. Your guide lights the wood-burner and shows you how to use it the Finnish way. A pontoon leads to the lake, and if you're up for it and ice conditions allow, your guide can open a hole in the ice (avanto) for a cold dip between sauna rounds. Towels, soap and birch tar oil are provided (bring a swimsuit if you'd like, or go the traditional Finnish way). The sauna is entirely private, and your guide prepares a local snack while you relax, for about an hour in total.
