Your guide picks you up and takes you from Rovaniemi into the Taiga forest, choosing a route that fits the group's level.
Before setting off, you get safety instructions and a quick lesson on backcountry ski technique. The skis have skin on the bottom, so you can move uphill and downhill without needing groomed trails or prior experience.
You then ski through the wilderness for around 60 to 90 minutes, taking in Lapland's snow-covered scenery at your own pace.
Halfway through, your guide lights a fire for refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack — a good moment to hear more about life in the Arctic and the local nature.
The full tour lasts 4 hours, including transportation from and to Rovaniemi, and groups are capped at 8 people.
