Among the reindeer. Spend the night right in the reindeer pasture, watching baby reindeer and their mothers run, play and settle in the forest — visits run from early summer through August, when the season's calves are born.
Midnight sun. Through the season, the sun barely sets, so you can watch the reindeer and the surrounding nature well into the small hours before turning in.
Where you sleep. Your bed for the night is a genuine reindeer herders' wooden lean-to (laavu), the traditional shelter used during reindeer husbandry work, with a warm sleeping bag made of reindeer hide.
In the morning. Wake to a Lappish breakfast served by the fire. The land is privately owned, so you have it to yourself, and your guide stays close by in a nearby cottage throughout the night.
Location. Porovaara is just a 20-minute drive from central Rovaniemi, surrounded by quiet forest filled with birdsong.
