Meet Kati, a reindeer herder whose family farm has been passed down for generations. You'll feed the reindeer and learn about reindeer husbandry in Finland before heading to a traditional wooden kota.
By the warmth of an open fire, Kati shares her knowledge of reindeer husbandry and teaches you to make simple jewelry from reindeer antlers and tanned leather — the same craft behind her own necklaces, wrist laces, buttons and leather pouches. Depending on the season, she may also show how she tans and cares for reindeer furs to make bags and other accessories.
While you create your own keepsake jewelry from reindeer leather, antlers and wooden beads, wood-fired pancakes are prepared for you, served with homemade blueberry jam from Kati's family.
For a more private experience, you can add a session in the traditional wood-fired sauna for an extra fee — with this option, the whole visit, including the farm tour, workshop and sauna, becomes fully private.
