The tour starts with about an hour's drive from Rovaniemi to the village of Ranua and its wildlife park, home to more than 50 species of Arctic animals such as polar bear, wolverine, grey wolf and arctic fox, living in spacious, naturally fenced habitats surrounded by Nordic forest.
You walk the park's trails at your own pace, meeting the animals and taking as much time as you need to photograph them.
Your guide shares details about each species and their environment along the way — from how reindeer grow a new set of antlers every year to which animals in the park are endangered and how you can help protect them. Many of the animals here have been rescued after being injured or abandoned in the wild.
Before heading back to Rovaniemi, there's time for lunch and to browse nearby boutiques for Fazer sweets, local delicacies and souvenirs.
