Arrival at the wilderness cabin
Your guide takes you into the forest to a traditional log cabin with no electricity or running water, by a small lake.
Sauna and ice swimming
Your guide lights the wood-burning sauna stove and shows you how to use it the Finnish way. A pontoon leads to the lake, and if conditions allow, a hole may be opened in the ice (avanto) for a cold dip between sauna sessions.
Private snack
While you enjoy the sauna, your guide prepares a local snack. Sauna towels, soap, birch tar oil and other equipment are provided — bring a swimsuit if you'd like, or sauna the traditional Finnish way.
Choose your session
Sessions run in the early afternoon (13:00), late afternoon (16:00), or evening (19:00) — the evening slot is best for spotting the Northern Lights, thanks to the sauna's location by a north-facing, light-pollution-free lake.
Optional dinner and overnight stay
Add a wilderness dinner of Finnish soup, warm drinks and sweet pastries served in the cottage. The 19:00 session can also include an overnight stay in the cabin, with warm sleeping bags provided, returning to Rovaniemi around 10:00 the next morning after breakfast.
