Your private guide leads you deep into the forest to a traditional wilderness cabin — no electricity, no running water, just a wood-fired log sauna beside a quiet lake.
Once there, your guide lights the sauna the traditional Finnish way and shows you how to make the most of it. A pontoon leads straight into the lake, so you can cool off between rounds — refreshing in autumn, pleasantly cool in summer. Alternating hot sauna with cold water (or cold air) is a local ritual, and a genuinely healthy one.
Everything you need is provided: towels, soap, birch tar oil. Bring a swimsuit if you like, or go the Finnish way and skip it — this is a fully private experience, so it's entirely up to you. While you relax, your guide prepares a local snack by the fire.
Choose your departure
- Early afternoon — 13:00
- Late afternoon — 16:30, a relaxing end to an active day
- Evening — 19:30, sunset colours and, from September, prime Northern Lights viewing over the sauna's north-facing lake (auroras are never guaranteed)
- Midnight sun special — 21:30, for the magic of the nightless summer nights
- Evening with overnight — 19:30 departure, dinner and a night at the wilderness cabin, returning around 10:00 the next morning
Total time includes transport to the sauna, changing at the cottage, and about an hour in the sauna itself.
Optional dinner: add a wilderness meal for an extra touch — a hearty Finnish soup, warm drinks, and sweet pastries, served in the cozy cottage while you steam.
Optional overnight: your guide serves dinner, then leaves you warm winter sleeping bags and full gear for a peaceful night in the wild. After breakfast the next morning, your guide returns to take you back to Rovaniemi.
