Your guide drives you out to Korouoma Canyon, a 30 km long, up to 130 m deep canyon reserve, for a hike through peaceful forests past cliffs, rapids and waterfalls — icy formations in winter, an all-green oasis in spring and summer, and golden "Ruska" colours in autumn.
As you hike, your guide keeps an eye on wildlife and flora, pointing out tracks that could belong to wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels or Arctic hare.
Around an open fire, you're served refreshments and a typical Finnish barbecue snack. Your guide shows you how to start the fire using flint and steel and natural materials — no matches or lighter, even in temperatures as cold as -30°C — while answering your questions about nature, Lapland and Arctic life.
The excursion runs around 7 hours in total, including transport, hiking and time around the fire, and you'll be back in Rovaniemi by around 16:00. Groups are limited to 8 people.
