Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure by Wild About Lapland is designed to maximise your chances of seeing the magical Aurora Borealis during your stay in Rovaniemi, on a true night expedition. After being fitted with professional winter overalls and boots (temperatures can drop to –30°C), your Aurora guide drives you far from Rovaniemi, out into the wilderness, to start hunting.
We check weather forecasts and solar activity reports throughout the day to time the tour for the clearest sky. If conditions aren't favourable anywhere in Lapland, we cancel the tour and issue a full refund. Otherwise, we drive to the most promising locations — sometimes up to 350 kilometres away, occasionally even into Sweden or Norway — and the tour may start as late as afternoon to reach them. We keep checking conditions throughout the night and can move on to another spot together if needed.
As a 7-hour Aurora hunt, you'll visit several locations and drive long distances through the Lappish wilderness, taking in fantastic scenery — a lake shore, an open hilltop, or a snow-covered forest, hopefully with the Aurora dancing overhead.
Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, so despite our best efforts, we can't always guarantee a sighting. If that happens, you'll receive a 50% refund to cover fuel and equipment costs. To focus on the hunt itself, we provide hot drinks and light refreshments at short stops rather than long breaks by the fire, and your guide carries a professional camera to capture pictures of you and the Aurora — with a download link sent the next day.
Groups are limited to 8 people maximum, both for a more personal experience and because smaller groups (with less light pollution from phones and cameras) improve everyone's chances of seeing the lights clearly.
