Step away from the lights of Rovaniemi and enter the stillness of a snow-covered Lapland forest. After meeting the reindeer, settle into a traditional sleigh as a local herder leads the caravan along peaceful woodland trails. The animals’ gentle pace offers a quiet and atmospheric way to experience the Arctic night.
Reindeer are more than an iconic symbol of Lapland; they have shaped local transport, livelihoods and traditions for generations. Through conversations with the herders, you will learn about reindeer husbandry, the animals’ semi-wild nature and the knowledge required to work with them. This cultural exchange transforms the sleigh ride into a meaningful encounter with northern life.
After the ride, continue the evening in a warm wooden setting with hot drinks and cookies while the herders answer your questions. The surrounding forest lies away from city light pollution, so clear skies may offer a chance to see the Northern Lights. Aurora sightings are never guaranteed and should be considered a memorable bonus to an experience centred on reindeer, culture and Lapland’s peaceful nature.
