Authentic Reindeer Farm Visit in Rovaniemi

Reindeer are Lapland's most iconic animal, woven deeply into local tradition — meeting these lovely semi-wild creatures is always a highlight for visitors to Rovaniemi.

Your guide takes you from Rovaniemi to a traditional reindeer farm by a lake, where herders have lived and worked for around four centuries. It's a genuine window into local culture and a traditional way of life. You'll meet the herders at work with their male reindeer and learn about reindeer husbandry. As the first visit of the day, you'll also get the chance to feed the reindeer with some of their favourite food — a great way to get close to animals that are still very much wild.

In autumn, once there's enough snow, you can also try a self-driven short sleigh ride of 400-600m (around 2-3 min). Check our specific winter experience for this adventure!

Dress for the weather, especially in case of rain, wind or cold. In summer, a hat, sunglasses or sunscreen are a good idea — but please skip mosquito repellent, as it can affect the wellbeing of the reindeer.
