Head into arctic nature and discover the beautiful wilderness of Lapland on this educational guided hike, adapted to your group's level and to the season's highlights — even without snow, Lapland is worth discovering. Under the midnight sun, the never-ending daylight lets you explore at any hour, with sunsets that blend into sunrises in a mesmerizing wash of colour.
Standard sunset hike. A gentle 4–5km hike in a great nature area near Rovaniemi with a fine viewpoint; the tour runs about 3h30–4h.
Extended hike (on request). A longer 10–15km hike in the Rovaniemi area, or a gentler 5–8km hike into a canyon or up to the top of a Lappish fell in another part of Lapland.
Along the way, your outdoor guide shares the fauna and flora, footprints in the snow or mud, edible berries and mushrooms, and the basics of surviving in arctic conditions. A break by an open fire lets you grill a typical Finnish snack with hot drinks, and see how a fire is built in arctic conditions. Tours run in small groups only, for a proper connection with nature.
Season. Hikes run from late May to November, in the evening, at a time adapted to sunset hours. The Midnight Sun lasts from late May to early July; in July and August the sun sets only briefly for the "white nights." From September, as the Northern Lights season begins, you may spot some on the way back from the hike.
In winter, we recommend early snow hiking for late-autumn adventures, a hike into Korouoma Canyon to see the frozen waterfalls, or a snowshoe or ski trek off the beaten track.
