The day starts with your guide taking you in a small group far from Rovaniemi to reach remote wilderness areas of forests, hills and snowy landscapes.
You travel on Altai skis (“sliding snowshoes”) — backcountry skis with a short skin that let you hike uphill and glide downhill on deep snow, off any beaten track.
Along with skis and poles, the group is equipped with an expedition sleigh (pulkka), which you get to pull yourself during the tour.
Your guide teaches you how to prepare an Arctic expedition, what to pack in the sleigh, and other safety tips as you go.
The goal is to get deep into nature, far from civilization, aiming for a scenic spot with a panoramic view.
Your guide then builds a fire, and the group enjoys a wild barbecue lunch together.
